Zcash Plans Quantum-Recoverable Wallets and Aims for Full Quantum-Proof Status

Zcash has announced plans to roll out quantum-recoverable wallets within the next month. This initiative is part of a broader roadmap aiming for full post-quantum capabilities within 12 to 18 months. Josh Swihart, founder and CEO of the Zcash Open Development Lab, conveyed this information during a session at Consensus Miami, moderated by Helius's founder, Mert Mumtaz.

This announcement coincides with a remarkable 110% increase in ZEC's market value over the past month, spurred by a significant investment from Multicoin Capital alongside a rekindled interest in privacy-oriented cryptocurrencies. In addition to the wallet upgrade, Zcash seeks to enhance its network capacity to match the throughput seen in systems like Visa and Mastercard.

Significantly, the adoption of Zcash is also driven by innovative features such as cross-chain swaps into shielded ZEC through Electric Coin Company's mobile wallet. Since the integration with Near Intents was completed in October 2025, nearly $600 million to $700 million has been transacted in this manner, facilitating conversions from assets such as Bitcoin (BTC), Solana (SOL), and USD Coin (USDC) directly into shielded ZEC.

  • The shielded pool currently holds approximately 30% of circulating ZEC, an all-time high, indicating robust user engagement.
  • Future proposals include reducing Zcash's block time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds and introducing a mechanism for token-holder voting via Zashi, envisioned as an opinion layer rather than a formal governance structure.

Going forward, market participants are poised to scrutinize whether Zcash can successfully implement the quantum recoverable wallets within the specified time frame. Maintaining growth in the shielded pool alongside ZEC's price rise could signal that adoption is driving this momentum rather than mere speculation.
