SpaceX Moves Bitcoin Among Wallets, Raises No Sales Concerns

On July 8, 2026, SpaceX conducted small bitcoin transfers between its own wallets for the first time in about six months. These transactions included three transfers totaling less than $300 of its total 18,712 bitcoin, which are currently valued at approximately $1.16 billion.

The largest amount transferred involved 0.00213 BTC (about $135), while the other transactions moved 0.00139 BTC (around $89) and a small amount from Coinbase Prime's custody service to cover fees. Importantly, none of these coins were sent to exchanges, indicating that SpaceX continues to retain control of its bitcoin assets.

These minor wallet movements prompted interest in the market, especially following SpaceX's June 12 initial public offering (IPO), which disclosed the company's full bitcoin position for the first time. This disclosure had more than doubled previously estimated on-chain holdings and escalated scrutiny over even minor wallet activities.

Despite the heightened attention, industry analysts believe these recent transfers are likely routine maintenance, such as consolidating holdings or testing wallet setups. "Small movements can draw attention after a share listing even though none of the coins reached an exchange deposit address and none left SpaceX's control," according to reports. This aligns with SpaceX's history, as their last significant wallet activity occurred six to seven months ago, involving the transfer of around 1,000 BTC without any being sent to exchanges.

Currently, SpaceX's founder, Elon Musk, manages over 30,000 BTC across both SpaceX and Tesla. Observers will be vigilant for any signs of future sales, particularly if any bitcoins are deposited into known exchange addresses, as this could indicate changes in how SpaceX manages its treasury following its public offering.
