Ripple Introduces Minting Platform and Compliance Network for RLUSD
Ripple launches Ripple Mint, an institutional platform to mint RLUSD, and integrates the stablecoin with Notabene's compliance network, according to CoinDesk. Despite an increase in holders, RLUSD's monthly transfer volume decreases by 25%, raising concerns about its actual usage in transactions.

Ripple has introduced Ripple Mint, an automated platform designed for institutions to create, redeem, bridge, and track its dollar-backed stablecoin, RLUSD. This new system allows users to mint RLUSD tokens automatically through direct integration, simplifying the process of token issuance and streamlining the transaction tracking from dollar transfer to on-chain settlement.
Alongside Ripple Mint, Ripple has integrated RLUSD into Notabene's compliance network. This strategic investment aims to enhance the token's visibility and usage within institutional payment frameworks. Such integrations are intended to encourage actual transaction volume, which is crucial as the current usage patterns suggest a trend towards holding rather than transacting.
Despite these developments, monthly transfer volume for RLUSD has decreased significantly, dropping around 25% from approximately $14.6 billion to $10.95 billion. While the number of RLUSD holders has increased—about a 6% rise in holder count and a 70% increase in active addresses—the declining transfer volume indicates that the token is more often being held as an asset rather than utilized for transactions.
Currently, RLUSD holds a market value of about $1.5 billion, a considerable size but dwarfed by competitors like Tether and USD Coin. Its supply is split relatively evenly between the XRP Ledger and Ethereum, with approximately $877 million on the XRP Ledger and $643 million on Ethereum. The focus now shifts to how Ripple can convert its growing stablecoin supply into active usage within institutional payment applications.
The moves to develop Ripple Mint and to expand RLUSD’s integration with payment networks may help address the gap between issuance and actual usage. "Growing a stablecoin's supply is one challenge. Turning it into infrastructure that institutions run real volume through is the harder one," emphasizes a Ripple source, highlighting the dual focus of the company's current strategy.
